Nine Ghana Air Force (GHAF) officers  were among 18 graduates who successfully completed a rigorous 5-month ab-initio aerodrome control course at the Ghana Civil Aviation Training Academy on Friday 18 September 2026.

The graduation ceremony, held at the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority was to mark the successful completion of the training programme and to celebrate the achievements of the Air Traffic Controllers.

In addition to the nine GHAF officers, the graduating class comprised participants from The Gambia, Guinea and Sierra Leone, reflecting the regional character of the training programme and Ghana’s contribution to aviation capacity development within the sub-region.

Addressing the graduates, the Director General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Training Academy, Ing Frank Apeagyei expressed his pride and satisfaction in their dedicated efforts during the intensive training programme. He noted that their successful completion of the course was a testament to their hard work and determination. He also commended the efforts of the instructors that coordinated the success of the course.

The Sierra Leonean Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Mohammed Hassan Kaisamba, who was also in attendance, congratulated the students on behalf of the partnering countries and emphasised the importance of collaboration and cooperation among nations in the aviation industry. He also praised the training academy for providing state-of-the-art facilities and resources for the students to excel in their training.

The Chief Instructor of the Course, Mr Edmund Adamtsey, commended the graduating students for their commitment to excellence and their ability to learn and adapt to the complex field of aerodrome control. He encouraged them to continue to uphold the highest standards in their future endeavours.

In his closing address, the Director General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, Reverend Stephen Wilfred Arthur, highlighted the critical role of aerodrome controllers in ensuring the safety and efficiency of air traffic. He emphasised the importance of continuous learning and professional development in the fast-paced and constantly evolving field of aviation.

The graduating students were commended for their exceptional performance in the course. They were also presented with certificates and sash to signify their successful completion of the ab-initio aerodrome control course.
